Volunteer Driver

Description

Volunteer Drivers with Bo'ness Car 4U will be asked to take people registered with any Bo'ness Medical Practice who have been diagnosed with cancer from their homes to places of treatment, then home again, using their own vehicles. We know that helping in this way gives volunteers a lot of role satisfaction.

It is our policy to ensure that the patient and driver both undertake a covid lateral flow test prior to any treatment drive, thus ensuring a further level of protection for an already vulnerable group of people. If the patient tests positive, the drive does not go ahead, if the driver tests positive another driver will be used.

•Each successful volunteer driver is issued with a holdall containing relevant PPE, a photographic identity card on a lanyard
•Each driver, must have their own mobile phone, will be supplied with business cards to write their mobile number, or any other relevant contact number to give to the patient on arrival at hospital (this is essential for contact especially when an appointment is finished).
•The Volunteer Coordinator circulates details of the date, times and place of treatment of pending drives by email to the driver group and drivers put their names forward to accept a drive.
•Every volunteer is free to accept or reject any drive.
•Once the drives have been allocated, the drivers are given the contact details of the patient to contact the patient the day before each pick up for an introduction, covid test reminder and to confirm the details of pick-up.
•Driver conveys the patient to the place of treatment and waits for them before returning them home. If the treatment is to last for longer than two hours, two drivers will become involved.

Frequency and commitment details

Mondays - Fridays. Flexible to suit the volunteer - every volunteer is free to accept or reject any drive.

Restrictions

We ask that any volunteer driver be a minimum of 18 years of age and to have held a full Driving Licence for at least one year. We advise drivers to notify their insurers to let them know they intend to use their car for voluntary work.
Experience required: Volunteers must have their own vehicle that is adequately insured and maintained.
Travel details: Currently places of treatment are the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, Glasgow Beatson, Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, with other destinations occasionally according to need.
Minimum age: 18

Volunteer Driver

If you have spare time any weekday and a car, we are looking for new Volunteer Drivers who can take local Lanarkshire Cancer Patients to and from their hospital and clinic appointments. We can repay your fuel expenses at a rate of 45p per mile. Your role will be to drive patients and any escort only. You will be asked for your availability by our office staff and given plenty of notice as to when and where a patient’s appointment will take place. Our drivers agree a pick-up time with the patient the night before and will either drop them off or bring them home if their treatment is a short one. For longer treatment times, drivers will be asked to either drop the patients off or be asked if they are available to pick them up later if their time allows.

Volunteer Driver

Thank you for your interest in our Driver Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have a full driving licence, have a 4 or 5 door car, and have some time to spare, you can make a real difference by transporting cancer patients within Ayrshire to and from various hospitals, locally and in Greater Glasgow for treatment. Our service users are required to attend appointments at a wide range of times, generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Our Driver Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Drivers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Driver Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Safely transport patients from their homes to hospital and back at pre-arranged times. No formal patient transport experience or skills are required, however, a valid Driving Licence held for a minimum of 5 years is essential. You will be eligible to claim expenses for associated mileage whilst volunteering when using your own vehicle, in line with current HMRC allowances. Volunteer Driver

We offer free transport to cancer patients and where possible their escort to all hospitals and clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Ayrshire. Patients are collected from their homes, accompanied to hospital and taken home again after treatment. This service is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment. We also provide transport for the hospice and to appointments for all therapy sessions. We can only ensure to continue the service with the support of our volunteer drivers. If you can commit to a few hours of driving and waiting for patients every week or fortnight or every month, please consider volunteering with us. To safeguard both service users and drivers, we require all volunteers to be PVG checked and we do require volunteers to own a vehicle (MOT & insured) and have a clean valid driving license. We will reimburse mileage expenses for volunteers.

Volunteer Outreach Support Driver

Fare4Free was formed in 2016 to: • Provide transport solutions for the Armed Forces Community where public transport is unavailable or not suitable across Scotland. • Reduce missed appointments and ensure the continuation of treatment plans. • To increase wellbeing, reduce anxiety and encourage integration back into the community. Our bespoke service provides a person-centred journey and is split into three categories: • Medical - focusing on the beneficiaries’ requirements while attending hospital, mental health, or therapeutic based appointments. • Wellbeing - as we introduce our beneficiaries back into their local community and support them in the transition to start attending local activities, events, and volunteering opportunities. • Intelligent signposting and onward referrals - to over 50 collaborative partners supporting with any additional needs from financial guidance, home adaptations and available statutory services. The Volunteer Outreach Support Driver (VOSD) is at the heart of Fares4Free by making sure that our clients are where they need to be at the right time. They will be responsible for checking their vehicle before and after work and keeping it clean inside and out. VOSDs are our designated area specialists who understand the communities they operate within fully and the wide range of services available to them. They are passionate about getting it right, are able communicators and focused on using their experience to connect people with the help that they need.
