Bonny Café Volunteers and Kitchen Helpers

Description

Bonny Café is a community café, run by volunteers at Bonnymuir Green Community Centre. We serve drinks, hot food and baked goods from 10.30 -1.30, takeaway and indoor table service. The café has recently increased its opening hours and is now running Friday to Sunday, so we are hoping to find new volunteers to support these extended opening times.

We are particularly looking for people to help with kitchen duties in the cafe:
• cooking hot food.
• making up bacon/sausage rolls.
• making up sandwiches.

You will be given a warm welcome and all the help and support you need to learn the ropes. Bonnymuir Green is a fantastic place to be involved with and has really developed and grown since it opened to the public three years ago. There is no set commitment – we appreciate any time that you have to give!

Bonnymuir Green Community Trust is a thriving community owned green space. We have a productive, managed community garden, a social hub and cafe, which is led, developed and sustained by local volunteers. We encourage all members of the public to meet and share in a space that is accessible, providing the community with a mix of educational and social activities, encouraging fun, good health, wellbeing and sustainable living.

Restrictions

Experience required: Positive attitude, likes meeting people and working as part of a team.
Travel details: Bonny Café is located in an old bowling green, off Bonnymuir Place, Aberdeen. It’s near Aberdeen Royal Infirmary so there are plenty of bus routes nearby. On street parking restrictions apply Mon to Fri, 10 – 4, and there is no parking allowed in the lane leading to Bonnymuir Green.

Support

Taster available: Yes
Training details: Excellent support and relevant training is provided. All café volunteers complete a new volunteer details form and are asked to read through the Level 2 Food Safety Manual before starting. They are invited in for a “shadow” shift, where they can learn how the café operates and meet some of the other volunteers. Once they have completed a few trial shifts, they can be added to our WhatsApp group chats and our Doodle poll, where we communicate about baking/availability.

The Kincorth Community Centre Hub has great volunteer opportunities to assist with a range of activities at the Hub. Volunteer roles include supporting our busy community cafe, which has rapidly taken off, we currently open 9.30 -2.30, but our aim is to run a breakfast and supper club, as well as have the cafe open for activities in the evening. Community Cafe Volunteers

Devana Parish Church (formerly Ferryhill Parish Church) operates a great community café in the heart of Ferryhill, which creates a welcoming environment for those who attend for a morning cuppa and also for those who volunteer their services. We are requiring helpers, who can assist in the coffee shop, as it is a very popular meeting place. Helpers are required to volunteer with the team in the general running of the coffee shop. e.g. setting tables, serving coffees, clearing tables and generally tidying up. The café is located in the church but people do not need to be church members to be volunteers-everyone is welcome. All volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Support, mentoring and learning opportunities will be available as and when required. A brilliant opportunity to help and make a real difference in the community. Food Pantry Customer Assistant

Your role as the Food Pantry Customer Assistant is to help customers who come into the Food Pantry, offering information and assistance as they are enquiring, browsing or purchasing food. Our Food Pantry is the first one in South Ayrshire based in Ayr Town Centre. A Pantry is a membership scheme aimed at helping people make their money go further by reducing their food shopping bills and providing advice and support. Local Pantries mean people can bring down their food shopping bills, and access good food, whilst freeing up more money for other essentials and enabling tight budgets to stretch a little further. A Pantry offers dignity, choice, community and food quality. Your role will be to assist new and current members learn about the Pantry and do their shopping. We will give you full training on how it works, equipment used, systems to follow etc. You will always be volunteering as part of a team of volunteers with a staff team leader present. As there will be a café on the premises, there will be an opportunity to benefit from Barista training. DUTIES: The role of the Food Pantry Customer Assistant will be as follows: • Assist customers to the Pantry, engaging in conversation • Offer information on how the Pantry works • Offer signposting to other services where necessary • Operate till with cash / card handling • Restock and rotate shelves and fridges as required • Clean and sanitise according to guidance • To commit to a minimum of 3.5hrs per week

Coffee and Chat Volunteer

We have opened our cosy space at the Pioneer Cafe, at the Community Church Hall for anyone who is keen to get out of the house for a few hours to meet other people, relax and have a chat. Volunteers can help socialise, chat and support staff serve teas/coffee, warm soup and snacks at the cafe. Volunteers are not expected to undertake care sector roles, but support individuals by chatting, socialising, helping out in the kitchen, set up, tidy the cafe and clear tables, etc. Could you offer a few hours per week?
