Description

Community Toolbox and Workshop is an exciting new project based in the Wellgate Centre and is all about sharing tools, equipment and skills to help improve the wellbeing of people in the city

Our groups are designed to help our participants:

• to connect with others
• to try new things and learn new skills

Our volunteers will work with staff and participants using a commom- sense approach to:

• generate themes and ideas
• Ensure that everyone is included in the activity
• Help to prepare the room prior to the group
• Ensure that participants have the materials for their project
• Demonstrate how to use tools or carry out tasks and support participants to practice skills
• Ensure that everyone works safely
• Ensure that all tools and materials are stored safely
• Clear up after activity

The DIY instructor will work with participants to build confidence and empower people to improve the environments where they live.

Wellbeing Works promotes better wellbeing for those who face mental health challenges: building confidence, learning new skills, connecting with others and having a positive impact on our community. Wellbeing Works is the new brand for what was Dundee Association for Mental Health, and has been providing support and services for the people of Dundee for more than 50 years.

Restrictions

Volunteering opportunity will involve the use of age restricted power tools.
Experience required: This opportunity would suit someone with a range of practical skills that might include painting and decorating, woodwork, upcycling ,model building and general repair and maintenance. This could suit someone who is retired or no longer working but looking to feel useful and share or pass on their skills.
Minimum age: 18

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Wellbeing Works will repay any public transport costs or mileage rate of 45p per mile.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Opportuniy to come in and visit the workshop. meet our staff and participants and try out some practical skills
Training details: Training will include - Mental Health Awareness, Health & Safety etc as well as regular support and supervision
