Garden volunteer

Description

The garden is situated in the old neglected church orchard and was created in 2016 by a small group of volunteers under the auspices of the Parish Church. The team have tried to create a peaceful and enjoyable place for the community to enjoy, with items of interest for all ages.

The volunteer would always be working with the rest of the team with ongoing support at all times. Jobs would include basic DIY, garden maintenance, composting, planting, weeding, assisting with fundraising and planning new projects. No official training needed but there will be ongoing opportunities to learn more about gardening generally. The Community Garden is normally open for volunteers on Monday and Wednesday mornings but other times may be available.

Good basic DIY skills would be an advantage and as ability to work as a team and regularly welcome visitors good communication skills are important.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Orchard Garden was officially opened on Sunday 10th July 2016, with a Dedication service. Work on the Garden has been on-going for a number of years, with a planning committee taking the lead on efforts to secure funding for tools, a gate, a lovely visitor/information hut... The garden is open to the whole community to visit, have a seat, time for quiet reflection, or explore the fairy garden and different plans with the whole family!
