Donation Handling Volunteer

The purpose of this role is to maximise the amount of excess donations Fresh Start receives which cannot go into Starter Packs and can be sold in Fresh Start Shop. The main aim is to reduce waste, recycle, reuse and divert items away from landfill. This role is based in Fresh Start warehouse.

Organisation aims and objectives

Fresh start runs a service for people who have experienced homelessness and have recently been offered a tenancy of their own. With the assistance of volunteers, Fresh Start offers both practical and emotional support through a variety of integrated services that are intended to help people manage the transition to independent living and to prevent the cyclical nature of homelessness.










1 day a week, 3-4 hours for 4-6 months


Experience required: An understanding of our charity, community and service users. Reliable and punctual. An understanding of waste reduction and the importance of recycling & reusing items where possible. Systematic thinker with good organisation skills. Adaptable when plans change. Self-directed/works well on own initiative.
Travel details: Fresh Start is based on Ferry Road Drive in Pilton and is on all main city bus routes to Crewe Road and Muirhouse.

Expenses details: Submit a monthly claim form with receipts/travel tickets/mileage
Training details: A Training session will be offered An induction into the role and a shadow shift before volunteering begins. A review will happen after 4 shifts to see how volunteer feels about the role.
