Description

Following a four-year refurbishment, David Livingstone Birthplace has opened our brand-new museum exhibition, shop, and café in July 2021. This is an exciting time to join us as we welcome visitors into the new museum for the 2022 season.
We are looking for enthusiastic Visitor Experience Volunteers to join our Visitor Experience team. This is a vital role in supporting the museum and interacting with the public as the face of the David Livingstone Birthplace. The Visitor Experience Volunteers will greet visitors and engage with them in a friendly and informative manner to ensure that they have an enjoyable experience.
We are particularly looking for Visitor Experience Volunteers that are excited about greeting visitors and selling tickets at the Welcome Desk. This is an important task as you will be the first point of contact for all visitors at the beginning of their journey around the museum. Full training will be given for Welcome Desk duties and volunteers will work closely with staff.

Organisation aims and objectives

The David Livingstone Trust manage and administer the tenements and adjacent buildings where David Livingstone was born and brought as a Scottish National Memorial of David Livingstone, his life and achievements. David Livingstone Birthplace museum is set along the banks of the River Clyde and surrounded by stunning parkland, the Birthplace Museum invites you to follow Livingstone’s journey from Blantyre to Africa through our new interactive exhibition.

Expenses details: All volunteers will be able to claim £5 towards their travel expenses.
Training details: Volunteers will receive till training and cash handling training as part of this role. We also endeavor to provide access to heritage-specific training and skills development opportunities for all volunteers.

The Volunteer Befriender helps residents who feel isolated or unable to get out very easily on their own by giving time on a one-to-one basis to help a person maintain social contact, provide companionship, and reduce loneliness and social isolation. Kincorth Community Centre Hub Volunteers

The Kincorth Community Centre Hub has great volunteer opportunities to assist with a range of activities at the Hub. Volunteer roles include supporting our busy community cafe, which has rapidly taken off, we currently open 9.30 -2.30, but our aim is to run a breakfast and supper club, as well as have the cafe open for activities in the evening. We have a diverse community that has a lot to offer e.g.: art classes/exercise group/dance class/music lessons and we are always open to new ideas-we are more or less a blank canvass. Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Level 2 Hygiene Certificate will be offered to those who want to volunteer/cook in the café. Any other training would be reviewed and provided if proved relevant. A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to volunteer and help make a real difference for people and the community. Older People Befriender

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about this could be the role for you! Our volunteer befrienders take part in home visits, one on one excursions and sometimes group trips. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who would love the companionship of another person who can visit on a regular basis. The role involves: - Visiting an older person in their own home to spend time chatting, listening and discussing various topics; playing a game; doing a puzzle; cooking... Whatever interests you both! We will always try to match you with someone we think you would be compatible with. - There's always the option to go out on walks or outings. - Visits will be arranged in advance and may be at a regular time every day/week/fortnight. - We ask that you update staff after visits and complete monitoring and reviewing requirements. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, incidents or complaints. - There's always the option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year.

Home Visiting / Family Group / Telephone Befriending Volunteer

You must be a parent or have carer experience. Good communication skills; friendly and empathetic. Volunteers will be supported by a volunteer co-ordinator and will have regular support and supervision, as well as ongoing training. Home-Start Wigtownshire is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with young children who are facing personal challenges, helping to prevent family crisis or breakdown. Home-Start Wigtownshire volunteers support families in the following ways: Home Visiting ; Family Group ; Telephone Befriender Offering support, friendship and practical help. This might include help with budgeting, meal planning, attending appointments, accessing services etc. Visiting families in their own homes, or by helping out at our weekly family groups, or providing remote support via a telephone/video call where the dignity and identity of each individual can be respected and protected through non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential support. Reassuring families that difficulties in bringing up children are not unusual. Emphasising the positive aspects of family life and positive parenting. Developing a relationship with the family in which time can be shared and an understanding developed. Encouraging parents’ strengths and emotional well being for the ultimate benefit of their own children.
