Gardening Volunteer

Following a four-year refurbishment, we opened our brand-new museum exhibition, shop, and café in July 2021. This is an exciting time to join us as we welcome visitors into the new museum for the 2022 season.
The gardening volunteers are a friendly team of volunteers who work all year round to maintain the extensive gardens around the David Livingstone Birthplace. They play an important role in making the grounds accessible, attractive, and enjoyable for the wide range of people that visit the grounds.
Key activities include grass cutting, weeding, hedge trimming, tidying the grounds, planting, and leaf clearance.

Organisation aims and objectives

To acquire by purchase, fee or otherwise the tenements in Blantyre, in the County of Lanark, containing the house in which David Livingstone, the Missionary and Explorer, was born or had his home as a child, together with an adjacent heritable property comprising the house and grounds known as Blantyre Lodge, and to hold, manage and administer the said properties as a Scottish National Memorial of David Livingstone, his life and achievements.

As our museum is open between 10am-4pm daily, we would expect volunteers to work sometime between these hours if possible.
