Would you like to help children with disabilities by assisting with travel to and from our services in Aberdeen?

Aberlour Options Aberdeen is a short breaks service, providing residential, community-based short breaks and care at home for children and young people with disabilities. We offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping transport children to and from our service on our minibus, helping them to feel comfortable and secure. Our services are in the Bucksburn and Garthdee areas of Aberdeen, with journeys frequently across the Aberdeen City area.

Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping children feel safe, secure and relaxed during these journeys. Volunteer Drivers put children at ease, who may otherwise be feeling anxious by interacting with children and being a friendly face to accompany them to and from the service. These interactions help to develop communication skills, building confidence and self-esteem.

Volunteer Drivers can gain a real sense of satisfaction from helping children with disabilities travel to and from the Options Aberdeen service, knowing they are making a positive impact and helping to make their time at Option Aberdeen enjoyable. Volunteer Drivers can gain experience working with children and young people, and become part of a supportive and encouraging team.

Organisation aims and objectives

Aberlour Options Aberdeen provide short breaks and care at home for children and young people with a disability. Our services allow families to feel supported and take a break from their caring roles.

Frequency and commitment details

Flexible. Volunteers will be required in the afternoons and evenings, typically 2-3 hours per week depending on availability. Volunteers support may also be requested at weekends or for organised activities.

Restrictions

Experience required: Volunteers can bring a range of skills and experience, including a full UK Driving License, with at least 12 months’ experience of driving, good communication and listening skills. Experience of working with children and young people is not essential, however volunteers should have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of children and young people.
Travel details: Our services are in the Bucksburn and Garthdee areas of Aberdeen, with journeys frequently across the Aberdeen City area. Out of pocket travel expenses will be paid.

In-water Volunteer

Inclusive Surfing Scotland is a new charity that delivers surfing experiences to children and adults with disabilities that restrict their access to the waves. We are recruiting in-water volunteers to support our surfers in the water, helping to push them into waves, catch them in the shallows and provide support and encouragement throughout. All volunteers will complete our in-house training (an online induction, followed by in-water training) and will be PVG checked. Help make our surfers experience in the waves unforgettable!

Camphill School Aberdeen has exciting new volunteer opportunities to help. As a volunteer you will become part of a team within one of our 10 residential Care homes, set in beautiful surroundings 5 miles outside of Aberdeen City centre and close to the Deeside Railway line. Driver

Are interested in becoming a volunteer driver? Do you enjoy driving and helping people? If you have your own vehicle and able to offer regular commitment, we have opportunities available in Angus and Dundee. We are looking for volunteer drivers to help us transport: - adults to day care - children to school - people to their GP or hospital appointment - people with learning disabilities to college. We pay your mileage expenses and provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
