Description

Volunteering Matters are recruiting a full-time volunteer for a six-month placement within SHARE Scotland, supported by the European Solidarity Corps!

The Organisation
SHARE offers a 24 hour support service for tenants across four two-bedroom flats. The service is staffed 24 hours a day. At SHARE you will be supporting adults with learning disabilities.

The Placement
As a volunteer, you are not expected to have any prior skills or experience. However, you are expected to commit to the role and show dedication and a willingness to learn new skills. Your role may vary considerably day-to-day as well as develop throughout your placement. These tasks are not exhaustive, however they should give you an idea of what to expect on this placement.

You will be assisting the tenants to enable them to become independent with day to day tasks and spending leisure time with them.
You will support tenants in the community, helping them take part in activities, go shopping, attend classes and support them when they are socialising.
You will be assisting the tenants as part of the day services. This might mean spending time alongside and supporting a tenant while they are potting plants, digging, weeding, painting. You might be doing these tasks yourself too and generally mucking in with the team at the day service.
You may go on walks with one tenant as part of his walking group.
Some tenants do not travel on their own as they can be quite vulnerable. You will help them travel to places they want to go and interact with them positively when supporting them.
You will also be expected to develop a positive relationship with the individuals and encourage them to maintain and develop new contacts and friendships.

This will be a busy and enjoyable role. You will get the most out of this placement by getting involved as much as you can, being flexible and encouraging the tenants.
