Café and Hospitality Volunteers for the Bow Café

Quarriers Arrows service in Moray offers a safe place and support to anyone struggling or worried about someone with substance use, trauma, mental health and wellbeing. The Bow Café is an extension of Arrows and provides a resource of practical help for people and their respective families dealing with substance or alcohol misuse in Moray.

Purpose of the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a dynamic team in a lighthearted café environment to provide a much needed service to all members of the community. The volunteers will enhance the sense of community within the cafe that Arrows service enables which is to create a safe space for people from all backgrounds and experiences.

Main tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in a diverse team
  • Cleaning dishes and café space
  • Opportunities to cook and create new menus
  • Opportunities to interact with members of the community
  • Learning about the workings of the hospitality industry

Where & When:
The Bow café is open Monday to Friday 8:30am--3:00pm and is located in The Square, 61-63 High Street, Elgin, IV301EE. The Volunteer may choose what times and days are best suited to volunteer at the café and agree with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Organisation aims and objectives

Quarriers is a Scottish charity providing practical support and care for children, adults and families. We challenge poverty and inequality of opportunity and choice, to bring about positive change in people's lives. Quarriers operates 127 Projects throughout Scotland and South-West England. They vary greatly, due to the wide variety of needs that we address but include group homes and supported living services for people with physical and learning disabilities, support services and Scotland's only residential assessment service for people with complex forms of epilepsy; a residential and day school and community based projects for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties; hostels and support services for young homeless people; family centres; respite and long term care for children with a range of disabilities and other difficulties and support services for carers.

Frequency and commitment details

To get the most out of the role it is hoped the volunteer can commit for at least 6 months. However, it is ultimately up to the volunteer for how long they would like to volunteer in the cafe.


18 years and over, younger people wishing to volunteer will be accepted on a case by case basis
Experience required: There are no required skills or experience required for this role however qualities of kindness, understanding, and openmindedness are very important.
Travel details: Lunch and all agreed out of pocket expenses will be provided which includes travel to and from the cafe.

Taster details: Introduction sessions at the Café may be offered on a case by case basis.
Training details: All relevant training will be provided, you will also have the opportunity to access other training as part of personal development. Support will be readily available through the consistent contact by the Volunteer Coordinator.
