The recent lockdown and ongoing COVID restrictions have been tough for members of Dates-n-Mates, a project that helps people with learning disabilities to access safe and appropriate social events. People with learning disabilities can be particularly at risk of feeling lonely and becoming socially isolated and recent events and restrictions on social activities and many of our members have felt increasingly anxious about keeping in touch with their friends.

It is not possible in the current climate for dates-n-mates to have large groups of people going out to a pub, nightclub or other setting so they have developed a Friendship Matching service where small groups (2-4 people) will come together to meet online via Zoom.

As a volunteer chaperone, you will join one of these groups and help the members to meet and interact
while they’re together. It’s all about helping them to have a safe, enjoyable and friendly time – and that
means it’s a fun, relaxed and sociable role.
