Our Carers Call dedicated telephone service supports over 800 carers in East Dunbartonshire. Volunteers call carers offering a chat which may be about their caring situation or about anything at all. This can reduce the stress and isolation carers can experience.
Volunteers are not there to solve problems but offer support and contact. Carers feedback reports they are relieved not to feel so alone and have access to other services offered by Carers Link or other organisations. Calls are made fortnightly, monthly or 3 monthly, so each caller has a dedicated list of carers to call
Carers Link is the local organisation dedicated to carers and we provide a range of services for people who live or care within the East Dunbartonshire area. Our Vision: Carers want to see the person they care for have the best possible quality of life. Carers Link wants to see the Carers of East Dunbartonshire also have the best possible quality of life, encompassing help and support for your caring role, and the opportunity to pursue your own needs, interests or work. Carers Link wants to see that the Carers of East Dunbartonshire are both informed and involved and that your experience as a Carer is respected and valued.
Experience required: A good listener, someone who likes chatting, with an understanding of carers needs. Empathy, discretion and a non-judgmental attitude are important when hearing people’s different and sensitive situations. Experience of being a carer would be advantageous but not essential. Good understanding of boundaries and an awareness of confidentiality. Being able to support someone through whatever they are experiencing is the main skill, as problems may not be resolved- but the support is invaluable
