Description

ELPA aims to promote and enrich the culture of play in East Lothian. ELPA has a strong sense of purpose and our success has been recognised in Scottish, UK and international awards. We work closely with partners including East Lothian Council and third sector groups.

In 2019, we developed our 5-year strategic plan, Playful Futures and have updated it to reflect new priorities as a result of COVID. ELPA is in the process of transferring all its work to a new SCIO that has been approved by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Trustees’ commitment to ELPA includes: active participation in Trustees’ Meetings usually every 6 weeks in the evenings; participation in ELPA events and activities, developing ELPA’s policies and plans; working with staff to support them in achieving ELPA aims; occasionally, representing ELPA at meetings, events and in the media; contributing your skills, knowledge, creativity and sense of fun.

ELPA Trustees do not work directly with children in their role as trustees however are expected to follow the Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct at all times.
Experience required: We are seeking Trustees who are flexible, problem-solving and have a positive attitude. They should have a commitment to supporting children’s rights and eagerness to promote children’s right to play. Knowledge or interests which will support ELPA’s work include innovation, environmental sustainability, communication, finance and business planning.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Trustees are not paid for their role as a Trustee but will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to their role on submission of an expenses claim and receipts.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Prospective Trustees will be invited to participate in a Planning or Trustees’ meeting and will be provided with a copy of Playful Futures, ELPA’s five-year plan.
Training details: New Trustees will be offered familiarisation activities with fellow Trustees and staff members. They will be invited to visit to see the play projects in action. New Trustees will be allocated a key person from the team to assist them in understanding the current position and plans.
