Description

SMART Denny is a small grassroots charity, which aims to reduce energy use and tackle fuel poverty in the district of Denny & Dunipace. We do this through raising awareness, and educating and empowering local families, individuals and households to make informed choices.

Role Description

The Energy Advisor will join our team to guide and advise on practical and affordable ways to save energy in homes and local businesses, help people understand their gas and electricity bills and tariffs, switch suppliers, advise on gas and electricity utility debt and help with Warm Home Discount.

Tasks include:

• Assist in developing an Energy portfolio for Smart Denny and the services provided.
• Attend one to one or group meetings providing advice on energy use
• Seeking out new ways to engage with new audiences locally
• Contributing to the quarterly newsletter.

Organisation aims and objectives

We are interested in how decisions of the future are created in past and present opportunities, especially those traditionally without voice. This includes exploring: · Democratic decision making · Young peoples’ imagined futures · Place-making in post-industrial communities’ cities · Carbon outputs and environmental concerns · Expanding environmental awareness by framing environmental problems at a level at which individuals have a personal, lived experience of the natural world – Drawing in wider expertise, schools, and other local groups. Our long-term future hopes are that we find ways of developing sustainable local energy generation in the community.

Meeting usually take place in the evening or weekends, out with this tasks can be completed flexibly around the volunteer's other commitments.

Restrictions

Experience required: Skills & experience: Good communication skills, ability to tailor messages to different audiences and have experience of being in an energy role Personal qualities: Passionate about the environment, enthusiastic and positive in attitude, trustworthy and reliable, willing to learn, proactive and able to work independently.
Travel details: Home-based with monthly/regular meetings in Denny
