Description

Braveheart are currently recruiting volunteers who can help us support older individuals, of varying needs, to increase their physical, social, and mental wellbeing through walking. We need individuals who can lead and accompany low level health walks at our Weekly and Away Day Walks around the Falkirk area. If you have a few hours spare per week, enjoy walking, and meeting new people then this could be a great role for you!

The main responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside Walking Development Officer, and fellow Leaders, to risk assess and plan suitable low-
level walks within the Falkirk District
  • Leading and supporting our walking programme – walks vary from 30 minutes to 1 hour Weekly Walks, and 45
minute to 1.25 hour Away Day Walks
  • Providing a friendly, welcoming and safe environment for walkers
  • Handling essential paperwork for new and current walkers
  • Attending 6 weekly Walk Leaders meetings

If you are interested in helping people walk their way to good health, please get in touch!

Organisation aims and objectives

Braveheart is a small charity, operating in the Forth Valley area of Scotland, which provides self management support groups and a led walking programme to adults with or at risk of developing long term health problems, particularly coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Braveheart's model is unique to the UK. It is entirely volunteer led, and it takes a community development approach. Brave heart trains lay volunteers, many of whom have long term health conditions themselves and it involves them as leaders. Our approach is to engage with " high risk" individuals in non clinical settings such as community centres and church halls to support and encourage them to take responsibility for improving their health.
