Description

Food Train Connects provides one to one support services for older people who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Our Connects Phone Friends service is a fantastic way to make an impact on the lives of older people in your community. Our aim is to support older people to eat well, age well and live well.
Becoming a Food Train Connects Phone Friend is rewarding and it makes a huge difference to people’s lives. It’s amazing the impact that regular phone call can have on someone who is isolated or lonely. If you want to make sure that an older person is able to live well in their own home this is a great opportunity to do so.

The Role:
• Contact the older person you are matched with on a regular basis, usually weekly, for a blether on the phone.
• Submit brief records and to report any matters of concern to staff
• Keep within the boundaries of the role
• To inform Food Train Connects Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints
• To maintain confidentiality
• To represent Food Train in a professional manner to our members and the wider community

Restrictions

Experience required: An interest in people and their lives is essential • Friendly, sociable and patient with a caring manner • Ability to make regular phone calls to an older person • Good verbal communication skills are required with a sense of humour who can adapt your conversation to different types of people • Maintain consistent communication with Food Train Connects staff throughout

Ward Volunteer

Ward volunteers can choose to help with serving teas and coffees or to help during mealtimes. Having extra support during these busy ward routines is invaluable and extremely helpful to all on the ward. Tea Trolley • Moving the trolley from room to room. • Providing patients with a drink of their choice. • Chatting to patients and taking an interest in them. • Passing on any useful information to medical staff. Mealtimes • Prepare the patient area for mealtimes. • Help distribute meal trays to patients and return trays when meals are complete. • Cutting up food for vulnerable patients and assisting with patient feeding. • Provide general assistance as requested by staff.

Wayfinding Volunteer

The Outpatients Department is a busy area within Raigmore Hospital. To help manage the flow of footfall and enhance the patient experience, volunteers will provide a Wayfinding service. Activities include: - Accompanying patients to their appointment within the Outpatient Department. - Providing directions to appointments. - Providing general assistance to enhance the patient experience and support clinical and clerical staff.

Connections For Life Volunteer

As part of the RAF Association, our Connections Volunteers offer the vital connection and support our beneficiaries need. In this role, you will make a real difference by helping support a lonely individual via regular telephone calls. What’s in it for you The opportunity to help members of the RAF community to feel less isolated and lonely and the sense of achievement having done this. It can help enhance your communication and listening skills, be very rewarding and you will gain a new meaningful relationship. The Association offers an online training course which is also accredited, and you will receive a certificate of achievement. Volunteers can also sign up for further training to increase their effectiveness. A RAF or forces background is not essential, and we welcome applications from all areas of the community.
