At East Lothian Community Hospital, we are looking for Volunteer Ward Helpers to support patient care and the smooth running of the wards.
Tasks include:
• Support the distribution of food and drinks to patients including giving out meals and drinks, refilling water jugs
• Support the cleaning up of dishes and cups following mealtimes
• Help patients to complete menu cards
• Visit patients to help them stay mentally active and socially engaged, depending on patient need
• Accompany patients to other areas of the hospital
• Answer telephones and door on ward and field enquiries/take messages
• Stock up supplies
• Undertake minor errands as directed by staff
Experience required: - no experience needed
- Good communication/listening skills
- Non judgemental & sensitive approach
- Positive attitude & willingness to learn
- Confident, articulate & friendly, with a good understanding of empathy
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Commitment to high standards & quality service

Training details: - 3 two-hour group induction training sessions, take place online on MS Teams, over 3 weeks.
- Placement chat and ward induction.
- 6-weekly review with Voluntary Services Manager.
- All volunteers given access to Optional Volunteer training, takes place online, courses are facilitated by trained staff, including Dementia awareness, communication training.
- Also the opportunity to join in group volunteer support sessions on line or face-to-face.
