Two hours out of your day could make someone else’s! Help reduce the loneliness and social isolation of an older person by becoming a volunteer driver. They need volunteer drivers to take people who are lonely or isolated to and from their (socially distanced) social cafe at Torryburn Community Centre. The cafe offers older people the chance to meet others for a chat over a cup of tea (or coffee). They also offer quizzes and a range of other activities.

As a volunteer driver you are the first point of contact with their members, getting to know them and building a positive relationship. This role involves:

  • collecting one of the members from their home and bringing them to the Community Centre
  • taking them home at the end of the session
  • complying with current COVID restrictions both in your car and at the Centre
  • talking to, and getting to know the members
  • raising any concerns regarding members wellbeing with the Project Workers or Assistant Project Workers
  • attending volunteer meetings and information sessions to help you with this role
  • making sure your car is road worthy, taxed and properly insured
  • encouraging members to maintain social distancing and adhere to COVID restrictions

Organisation aims and objectives

LinkLiving offer support through our Steps to Resilience programme, for young people between the ages of 14 and 25. Steps To Resilience is a 10-week trauma-informed personal development programme which equips young people with practical skills to manage their mental health and increase their resilience to cope with challenges. It is based on the belief that young people can be supported to turn the survival tools they have gained through adverse circumstances into positive skills ultimately leading to getting them into work or other positive destinations. We run courses for 14-16 year old non-school attenders, and for young people aged 16-25 years.
