Description

As a member of the HMS Unicorn Visitor Services Team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that every visitor enjoys a wonderful experience on board. From helping in the front of house to providing guided tours of the ship, our visitor service volunteers get to learn about all aspects of the visitor experience within a heritage attraction.

This role provides an opportunity to develop real-life customer service and communication skills, as well as the chance to meet other people and become part of a positive and hard working team. Ongoing customer service training is provided to all our visitor services volunteers as well as basic retail and housekeeping training.

As a member of the HMS Unicorn volunteer team, you will also be invited to different group social events throughout the year and can become involved in other areas of the ship's life including maintenance, learning, and engagement events.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Unicorn Preservation Society is a charity registered in Scotland who preserve and conserve HMS Unicorn, the most original old ship in the world. The purpose of the organisation is to ensure a sustainable future for the vessel, provide education relating to the ship and maritime heritage, and to provide recreational facilities for the community.

Restrictions

Experience required: You should have an interest in museums and heritage, and a desire to learn about visitor services within a museum environment. No previous experience is required for this role.
Travel details: HMS Unicorn, Victoria Dock, Dundee, DD1 3BP
Minimum age: 17

Support

Training details: Induction training will be provided by our VEL Officer to the organisation and workplace. Specific ongoing training will be provided by our Visitor Services team, on areas of customer service, retail, housekeeping, and tour guiding.
