Helping to build 2 dams made from piling on Portlethen Moss. This involves helping to secure the piling into the peat to form a dam. Gorse control is another job, where gorse is cut back with loppers or small saws.
Further details of the date will be shared on Facebook @portlethenmoss
To conserve Portlethen Moss a raised peat bog, which is now a Local Nature Conservation Site, due to our groups work. Also to maintain a native community woodland our group created in Portlethen and to increase biodiversity in our area. Both projects are in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, we hold ranger events at both sites. Because of our groups work local schools now use both sites as educational resources, as do local groups e.g. scouts, brownies and rainbows. We have also hosted events for Froglife, RSPB and NesBrec.
Travel details: Buses to Portlethen run along the road (at the south end of Bruntland Road) where the entrance to the Moss is. There is parking for cars in a lane across the road from the entrance,
