Description

Community Event Volunteer

Community Event volunteers attend and support our regular social events for focus people and their families in Edinburgh & Lothians.

Community event volunteers attend and support our regular social events for focus people and their families in Edinburgh and Lothians. Social events have a theme or activity (such as arts and crafts, coding, zumba, martial arts, etc) and volunteers join in with the focus people. This helps to build the focus people's confidence and skills in social situations. Events are scheduled, but volunteers can attend a selection of the dates if their schedule doesn't allow for full commitment to the social events.

Organisation aims and objectives

Equal Futures creates connections for people with a learning disability or autism in Scotland. Equal Futures was set up in 2002 by a group of parents who have a family member with disabilities, with the aim of helping families plan for the future to ensure that their relative can live a good life whilst recognising the importance of social connections. We support people and their families through Circles of support, befriending and social events providing support for people aged 16 and over across Scotland. Equal Futures currently support 25 families and are always meeting new families who require support.
