You have the unique opportunity to present one of Scotland’s most historic castles to visitors and tell the story of the Maitland family. Help bring history to life!
Initially volunteer Room Stewards are only required to provide a presence in the castle, to warmly welcome guests, and to answer visitors’ questions and to ensure that the security of artefacts are not compromised. As Room Stewards gain in knowledge they will be able to answer questions more fully and offer guided tours to individuals and small groups.
Thirlestane, one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland is situated in Lauder and opens as a Visitor Attraction from 30th May to 6th September 2020. Volunteers or “Friends of Thirlestane” play a vital part in providing a memorable and enjoyable experience to the visitors, by assisting them in the Castle. They aim preserve the castle, its grounds and its collections for future generations and to facilitate and encourage access to the castle, its grounds and its collections for both study and leisure.
Experience required: Previous experience in a historic house would be an advantage but is not necessary. An engaging personality and the ability to happily interact with visitors is more important. An interest in Scottish History and an ability to speak clearly and concisely.
