Braeburn Court provides respite care and short breaks in St Margaret’s Hope for older people. We are looking for volunteers to help with social activities such as visiting for a chat, reading newspapers or books aloud, making crafts or playing music. This is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to gain experience of volunteering in social care but also anyone who has a fun skill to share, some time to give or just loves having a blether.

As an AbilityNet Tech volunteer you can help unleash the power of technology to ensure that older people and disabled people are not excluded from the digital world. Overview All across the UK our 300 volunteers support older and/or disabled people at home to offer one-to-one support with their technology, whether that’s a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Our volunteers: - Trouble shoot technical issues. - Offer impartial advice on technology. - Set up new tech and install hardware and software. - Show people how to use their tech at home e.g. shop online, send and receive emails and Skype with family and friends. - Make adaptations to support a disabled person’s specific technology needs. What will I be doing? - Contacting clients to arrange a date/time to support (home visits or supporting them remotely). - Carrying out tech support for the clients you have accepted. - Feeding back on progress via our online ticketing system. - Supporting your local Coordinator with promoting the volunteer service in the local area. - Getting together with other tech volunteers at team meetings and wider company events. - Undergoing training on technology, particularly adaptive technology. - Supporting other volunteers through our online chat facility What are the benefits to me? Would you like to support older people in the community to eat well, age well and live well and maintain their independence in their own homes for as long as they're able? Are you friendly, sociable and patient with a caring manner? Our Shopping Companion role could well be the opportunity for you! You would carry out the following tasks: · Collect an older person from their home on agreed date and time to take them for their grocery shopping. · Support them as they do their grocery shop and transport them back to their home, helping unpack shopping if required. · To report back to Food Train Connects team and complete all required documentation after each trip. · To report any matters of concern to Food Train staff · To inform Food Train Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints · To maintain confidentiality · To represent Food Train in a professional manner to customers and the wider community A fantastic opportunity to help make a real difference. The Connects service offers a volunteer matching service for grocery shopping, telephone befriending and meal delivery. Help to combat feelings of loneliness, isolation and malnutrition amongst older people (55+) by becoming a Volunteer Cook. You do not need to be a Jamie or Nigella to get involved – just the ability to prepare an extra portion of your meal once a week, to drop off with an older neighbour and have a light hearted blether with them. The role is fun, flexible and can be done at a time that suits you and your matched member!
