Marie Curie
Marie Curie are launching a new service to support residents in local care homes across Glasgow.
We know that people who live in residential care can really benefit from having someone to visit them, to provide companionship and support them to take part in activities around the home. Our volunteers will be assigned to a local care home, and will speak to staff at the start of each shift to identify a resident who might benefit from companionship that day.
You might be reading to someone, chatting about their memories or helping the person you are with to engage with other activities going on in the care home. This is likely to be taking place in the early afternoon, and you will be part of an exciting new project we are trialing to make sure people who live in a care home are supported and provided with companionship on days when they don't always have a visitor.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys meeting new people and has great conversational skills. This is also an opportunity to be part of a new approach to supporting care home residents.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland
From stunning boutiques full of designer gems to discount stores where you can grab a bargain, our charity shops are much-loved across Scotland.
We are looking for friendly volunteers to help our shop management team assist customers and donors, and ensure the shop is tidy and well stocked. Whether you have a passion for fashion and love chatting to customers, or you would prefer to be behind the scenes in our stockroom, your help could make a difference in your local community.
Our Retail Volunteer Anne shares why she loves volunteering, “I wanted to learn new skills as well as get to know more people locally, so volunteering in the shop was ideal. I enjoy being part of the team! It’s good to feel useful and part of the successful running of the shop.”
We believe everyone has the right to live life to the full following the diagnosis of a chest or heart condition, long Covid, or a stroke. Our shops are vital in helping us raise the funds needed to provide services such as community support services, specialist nurses, advice and information, education, and peer support.
Join our fabulous team of Retail volunteers and learn new skills, make great friends, and make a real difference to people in Scotland who are isolated, scared, or anxious about their condition.
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland
Everyone has the right to live life to the full. After a diagnosis of a chest or heart condition, stroke, or Long Covid, many people experience fear and isolation, and struggle with the impact on their lives. The care and support we deliver every day ensures everyone can live the life they want to. Across Scotland, we provide vital advice, information, and support through our No Life Half Lived strategy.
Join our amazing team of Communication Support Volunteers, who support people who have had one of our conditions to develop autonomy and confidence in self-management, enabling them to fully engage with their community and activities of their choosing. The service follows a pathway from hospital to community and can be delivered in a one-to-one and/or group setting in person, virtually or via telephone.
Bike for Good
Bike for Good is a charity and social enterprise which started in July 2010 in a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras market. With a few donated bikes, a cobbled-together tool kit and a team of volunteers with a huge amount of passion and drive, Bike for Good (then known as Glasgow Bike Shed) was born!
We now have three thriving Community Hubs in Glasgow and an amazing team of 42 staff members and 50 + volunteers who are changing thousands of lives through cycling.
We have a West Hub, a South Hub and a hub on Civic Street
Love Cycling? Come and join Bike for Good's community, everyone is welcome. We believe that cycling is the most effective and sustainable form of transport and that it enhances our chances for a healthy life and environment. Our bike sales from donated and refurbished bikes support health and wellbeing community projects all over Glasgow.
Volunteers play a very important role in supporting our mission: refurbishing bicycles and promoting cycling as a viable means of transport. Our volunteers currently support us with bike rides, cycle training, stripping and building bikes, van driving, administration, the shop floor, and much more! We have many existing volunteer opportunities and are also open to creating roles for people who bring unique skills to Bike for Good.
You can volunteer to:
Rides: If you want to help with our rides, it would be great if you are a confident cyclist.
Bike Refurbishment: No skills required - just enthusiasm - come in and have a chat and we can take it from there.
Cyclists are welcome to volunteer on our community cycle rides and lessons. Your enthusiasm and encouragement will be a great support to participants who are developing their cycling skills and confidence. Group sizes vary and you will work alongside experienced staff who will lead the lessons and rides.
We understand that the success of the Bike for Good depends on our people. We are committed to valuing diversity and promoting equality for everyone at Bike for Good. Competent and motivated volunteers and staff are essential to the success of the organisation and we recognise the varied contributions that a diverse workforce brings to the organisation.

Arkbound Foundation
Founded in 2017, The Arkbound Foundation is the only independent charity in the UK that is concerned with improving accessibility and diversity within both publishing and journalism. We are a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity Number 1173072), and in Scotland (SC049523), with offices in Bristol and Glasgow.
We are a small organisation and are now seeking to widen and diversify our trustee board. In particular, we would be very interested if you have experience in business development, previously being a trustee of an organisation, and working with/for people who come from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds.
The purpose of a trustee is to generally oversee that a charity delivers its mission (in the interests of the general public) and that it functions well. Being a trustee is an important volunteer role that has a great responsibility, as well as unmatched opportunities to develop insights into high-level strategy, delivery of charitable work, management skills and transferable knowledge to a range of other careers.
The recommended minimum hourly commitment of a trustee is 8 hours per month; however, this is flexible and many of our existing trustees do less, whilst some choose to do more. Meetings take place at least every two months and participation can be remote.
What's in it for the volunteer?
We play a vital role in expanding publishing to a more diverse range of voices and have made a unique difference to British publishing by providing access to less orthodox opinions and views on British social and political issues. By taking on the role of trustee, you would be helping manage an organisation that is making a significant difference to this field of work.
If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). The coordinator will then contact you by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. Marie Curie
Marie Curie are launching a new service to support residents in local care homes across Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire.

Cancer Support Scotland
Cancer Support Scotland first began 40 years ago, in the cosy living room of Sir Kenneth Calman. Now in our new home amidst the leafy grounds of Gartnavel Hospital and we’ve worked hard to make sure things don’t feel a whole lot different. The Calman Centre was created as a safe space, helping everyone we support to feel at ease and in control. Where better then, than in a giant living room - where family and friends are welcome, and the kettle is always on.
As Scotland’s cancer charity, we have been the wellbeing champions for those affected by cancer for over 40 years – not only for those diagnosed, but their loved ones and carers too. We deliver high-quality counselling, complementary therapy and stress management services to promote mental and physical wellbeing and to enable those affected by cancer to continue to live the most active life possible in their community.
It's important to us that you feel happy, safe, confident and supported in your role. You will receive a full induction to Cancer Support Scotland including information about the history of the charity as well as Cancer Awareness. You will also be given an initial introduction and regular support from the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure you feel confident to undertake your role effectively. You will not be expected to have prior knowledge or experience; your supervisor will work with you to make sure you have all the tools you need and provide guidance.
We're looking for Event Volunteers to help with event assistance and coordination.
Event Assistance: Be an integral part of our organised fundraising events, offering support and ensuring their smooth execution. Your involvement will contribute to the success of our and our third partner community events.
Event Coordination: Showcase your organisational skills by taking charge of planning and coordinating fundraising events on behalf of Cancer Support Scotland. This includes everything from conceptualisation to execution with the support of our Fundraising Team.
These roles are very flexible, but we estimate 2-3 hours weekly, biweekly or monthly depending on the volunteer’s availability.
Location will vary but they are all in Glasgow. Agreed travel expenses to and from the events will be covered by Cancer Support Scotland.
If you are interested please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. Marie Curie
We're looking for volunteers with good conversational and listening skills to support a local care home in Parkhead.
Our volunteers will be assigned to a Riverside House care home and will speak to staff at the start of each shift to identify a resident who might benefit from the companionship that day.
We know that living with a life-limiting illness can be isolating, and for residents in a care home this can be a particularly difficult experience. We are working with the staff at Riverside House to provide volunteers to visit residents who might not have any family members living nearby, to spend time with them and help them to take part in activities around the home where appropriate.
You might be reading to someone, chatting about their memories or helping the person you are with to engage in other activities going on in the care home. This is likely to be taking place in the early afternoon, and you will be part of an exciting new project we are trialling to make sure people who live in a care home are supported and provided with companionship on days when they don't always have a visitor.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys meeting new people and has great conversational skills. This is also an opportunity to be part of a new approach to supporting care home residents. We will be starting this project at a care home in Stobhill but will be adding more locations as we go.
Is there any training?
Before becoming a Companion, you’ll get extensive training to make sure you’re ready, and we’ll give you ongoing support throughout your time volunteering.
The difference you make as a Companion
Everyone’s different, but the people we support say these are the biggest ways in which having a Companion volunteer to support them helps.

Nemo Arts
Founded in 1998, Nemo Arts (Formerly Theatre Nemo) has been at the forefront of providing high-quality, participatory arts activities that support people in recovery from poor mental health, for 25 years. We have pioneered work with children and families of prisoners, young carers, adults in psychiatric units, prisoners, and people in communities. We deliver a range of services using artistic disciplines including music, drama, and visual art. Research has shown that participation in the arts improves the mental health and wellbeing of participants, whatever the current state of their mental health. Our work helps people achieve positive outcomes such as increasing confidence and self-esteem, providing opportunities to increase creative and life skills, and reducing isolation. The creative arts have the potential to improve the quality of life and give people a new positive identity.
Our mission is to support people in recovery from poor mental health, and we aim to:
• Improve people’s mental health and wellbeing
• Improve knowledge and understanding of mental illness in the community
• Reduce stigma and isolation associated with poor mental health
The people who use our service are adults experiencing poor mental health, there is a huge spectrum of poor mental health, and all are welcome within our service. The majority, around 80%, of referrals we receive are from NHS Mental Health services. Other referrals are received from Social Work and other 3rd sector services with a small portion of people self-referring to our service.
The Role:
As a trustee, you will be responsible for the charity’s governance and strategy. This includes making sure the charity is appropriately financed, and that Nemo Arts complies with all relevant rules. We expect all trustees to act in the interests of the charity, by applying skill and care in the application of their duties as well as operating in a manner consistent with Nemo Art's purpose.
In practical terms, we ask that trustees attend four board meetings per year, the annual general meeting, and one strategy day per year. There are many other opportunities to be involved in including attending services and events.
Experience Required:
We are recruiting for additional trustees to complement our board, we are also recruiting for a treasurer. As treasurer, you will have good skills and expertise in financial compliance, finance, budgets, forecasting, and income generation. In addition, we would like you to have the ability to scrutinize and present the financial report at our annual general meetings.
Underpinning these requirements are good interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to working as a team, an understanding of and commitment to our charity’s work, a broader knowledge of trends across the third sector, and the application of those to strategic work.
In return, we can offer the satisfaction of helping fellow citizens overcome barriers in their lives by joining a committed and collaborative board.
Time Commitment:
Our meetings are held every quarter either online or at our offices in Glasgow. They usually start around 1:00 pm and finish around 3:00 pm. Dates are set well in advance.
Ad-hoc meetings take place outside of formal governance, which all trustees are expected to attend.
The time you provide to our charity will be a valuable commitment in helping those who are amongst the most vulnerable across our society.
If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email. Thereafter we require an Application process:
Please provide a personal statement setting out how you meet the person specification for either the role of trustee or treasurer (maximum one page of A4) by emailing to David Walker, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Trustees@nemoarts.org
Before making an application, you can contact Nemo Arts, at the e-mail address above to arrange for an informal discussion with the Chair or another Trustee.

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Join us as a Community Awareness Advocate at Cancer Support Scotland and help raise awareness about our vital services and various ways to support our cause.
If you enjoy speaking to small groups, this role is perfect for you. Inspire others by articulating the importance of our services and the numerous ways they can make a difference.
Be a visible presence in the community by attending regular information stalls, providing valuable resources and fostering connections between the public and our organisation.
Scottish Cot Death Trust
The Scottish Cot Death Trust have a bucket collection at Tesco Glasgow Barrhead Superstore on Wednesday 24th January from 9.30am-5.00pm.
The Scottish Cot Death Trust was founded in 1985 and is the only charity in Scotland dedicated to the sudden unexpected death of babies and young children. We make a difference because we aim to find the answers through funding research, provide support for bereaved families and educate the public and professionals about sudden unexpected death in infants (SUDI) and how to reduce the risks.
We are a very small charity with an even smaller number of volunteers but need at least 5 people collecting on the day to make it a success, even for an hour or two.
If you or your friends, family and colleagues would like to volunteer for a few hours or the full day, we’d love to hear from you!
No experience is necessary. All you need is a friendly and grateful personality, as you receive donations from the public.
Meet new people and help out a charity in one of Scotland’s busiest train stations! Fridays are always a great atmosphere, with people getting ready for the weekend!
The Trust will be there with a dedicated member of staff and all the support you need throughout the day.
Your support will help us continue our vital work: supporting bereaved families, educating the public and professionals, and funding research.
It is a great opportunity to gain experience in fundraising and events, and if you enjoy the role then you could join the fundraising team at future events.

You will do this through the excellent administration of processes and procedures needed for the smooth running of our programmes and activities. By providing great service and support, for example in helping match young people to suitable mentors, you will play a key role in delivering the best access, experience, and outcomes for every young person we serve.
The Mentor Manager and Coordinator role is flexible, combining good communication, networking and administrative skills with organisation and people management. You’ll work with a cohort of established Volunteers’, along with their ‘nominated point of contact’, to ensure we provide the best experience for our service users and get the best out of our active Volunteers’, enabling them to fulfil their roles as required. We are looking for a commitment of 2-3 hours per week.
Co-ordinators maintain the flow with each of the Volunteering Roles, communicating with Volunteers to fulfil their responsibilities, logging information to support contracts and working with the Volunteer Team to keep organisational requirements on track and maintain relationships. You will have good people skills, a good understanding of IT and online management systems and enjoy organising. You will be supported and work alongside a ‘nominated point contact’ to discuss need, timescales, priorities, where your role fits into the Trust, what are the benefits and reasons for the tasks undertaken.

What does the role involve?
Identifying suitable places and placing our iconic dog-shaped collection boxes locally in shops and businesses and counting up the funds every few months before paying them in to Guide Dogs.
Key responsibilities:
* Identifying and placing collecting boxes in suitable locations
* Talking to the shop owner, receptionist etc at the location about how the boxes will help Guide Dogs and what we do
* Emptying boxes every 3-6 months (as they get full) and banking the income through the paying in book provided.
Give a receipt and letter of thanks to the hosts
* Keeping a written record of the location of all boxes for your supervisor, the dates they are emptied and the dates/
amounts banked
* If boxes aren’t collecting much, you’ll decide to move them to a better location. Your supervisor may also ask you to
remove boxes
* Reporting any stolen boxes to the local mobility team

Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau
Glasgow - Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau is a local, independent charity which provides free, impartial and confidential advice and information to give you the tools you need to sort out any issues or problems. We’re at the heart of the community, supporting people who live and work in G1 to G15 and offer several services.
Make a difference at Drumchapel CAB as a Volunteer Social Media Assistant – it can be incredibly rewarding to contribute your time to a cause our community cares about!
We are looking for volunteers interested in social media to help create:
-ongoing content for the Bureau’s social media platforms and
-to keep our social media channels updated with brand focused news, updates and information.
-We are hoping you can also seek out new social media avenues and ways to connect with our community that we haven’t thought of.
Training will be provided through our online learning management system as well in house training on accessing our platforms and using bureau resources and tool kits. Support will be provided by the learning and development coordinator to integrate you into the team and help with all ongoing learning.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life.
All we ask in return is a commitment of at least 6 hours per week, a willingness to learn and dedication for a minimum of 12 months.
If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the Learning & Development Coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. British Red Cross
For people leaving hospital, adjusting to life at home can be a difficult time. Supporting someone to get their essential shopping or delivering a food parcel, pick up their prescription, popping in to have a chat and a cuppa with them, helping them manage their mail or going with them to appointments, finding local support groups or getting their heating turned on are amongst the things that our volunteers can do to make all the difference for the Service User to feel safe at home.
The role can be very varied because we are trying to support the service user with what they need at that time, and everyone is different.
Govanhill Baths Community Trust
Govanhill Baths Community Trust (GBCT) is recruiting Board Members to join a dynamic Board to take forward the reopening of the Baths as a Wellbeing Centre. We’re looking for committed individuals who are keen to help the Trust re-open the Baths, and to contribute to the social, cultural and physical regeneration of Govanhill as a community in the Southside of Glasgow. This recruitment drive is directed specifically towards candidates from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds (BAME+); we aim to ensure that we have a wider representation on the Board to reflect the diversity of Govanhill.
What does the role involve?
The Board currently meets on a monthly basis, on the first Tuesday, at 6:30pm. The meetings typically run for approximately two hours. We expect regular attendance at meetings, as well as reading reports, draft policies and proposals in advance of meetings.
We encourage applications from all who believe they can contribute effectively regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or belief. We welcome applications from the many community groups and individuals within the Govanhill area who have helped to shape Govanhill Baths Community Trust activities up to now. If you have any requirements for support, these can be discussed further during the interview process.
If you're interested, please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org.
